About Your Palisky Journal

Made by hand and made to last, this is more than just a notebook — it’s a place for your thoughts, lists, sketches, and stories.

Each one is crafted in North Carolina from full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather sourced from two Tuscan tanneries. The leather softens with use, deepens in color, and develops a patina that reflects your everyday life.

Refillable and built for the long haul, it’s a journal that’s both personal and practical — ready to grow with you.

About the Leather

We use full-grain, vegetable-tanned Vachetta leather from Tuscany, Italy, selected for its quality, character, and the way it changes beautifully with use.

Many of our core and seasonal leathers come from tanneries certified by the Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium (Pelle al Vegetale), which preserves the tradition of Tuscan vegetable tanning. Some limited-edition leathers may come from other Tuscan vegetable tanneries outside of the Consortium.

Vegetable tanning is a slow, traditional process that uses natural tannins derived from plant materials such as bark, wood, and leaves. The result is leather that feels rich and substantial, ages beautifully, and develops more character the longer you carry it.

Because we use full-grain leather, the hide's natural surface is preserved rather than sanded or heavily corrected. That means variation is expected and celebrated. You may see differences in grain, shifts in tone, wrinkles, veins, scars, healed scratches, insect marks, small spots, or other natural markings from the animal’s life. Some areas may also appear darker or lighter than others. These characteristics are part of working with natural leather and are one of the things that make every Palisky piece truly one-of-a-kind.

No two hides are exactly alike, and even two journals made from the same color may have slightly different grain, markings, or tone. Product photos are meant to represent the leather's color and character, but the exact piece you receive will be uniquely its own.

Our leathers can also vary in feel and finish:

  • Our core leathers have a smooth grain and supple, structured feel, with natural fats and waxes worked into the leather to give it its characteristic hand and help it develop a rich patina over time.
  • Some seasonal leathers have a more matte finish and may show greater tonal variation or darker natural markings, especially in lighter colors.
  • Our limited-release leathers may have their own subtle differences in texture, grain, firmness, and color variation depending on the hide and finish. That individuality is part of what makes natural Vachetta leather so special.

Over time, the leather will soften, deepen in color, develop a subtle sheen, and build a patina unique to the way you use and carry it.

Every piece is made to be carried for years, wearing in, not out.
